I WANT the sympathy vote on Tuesday!

DAMMIT. I have been going about the business of getting elected into a City office all WRONG all these years.

A very astute commenter on t-whirld suggested a COMPLETELY different, out-of-the-box way of getting YOUR vote:

5. 3/30/2008 8:32:02 AM, E T, tulsa
what a waste of taxpayer money. Paul will get his usual 2 vote. his and someone that feels sorry for him. if you put a dog in the council race, it would get more votes than paul.

Well, guess what? I need SYMPATHY from 1,500 CD9 voters and dog lovers! It really BITES to be me. I'm BROKE and LONELY, definitely in need of a whole lotta LOVE. Get out there on Tuesday, pity me, and VOTE TAY, at least TWICE!

PreserveMidtown Q-naire answers

1. How should the City inform citizens of variance applications?
Applications for PUD, zoning change or variance should be geocoded on an interactive map posted on cityoftulsa.org. Concerned citizens should be allowed to post online comments on specific applications.

2. Should neighborhoods be allowed to be in Conservation Districts?
Neighborhoods should be allowed to be whatever district they decide to the extent that the City’s sovereign right to govern within its own city limits are not diluted by the rules, regulations, and bylaws of the conversation district.

3. What reasonable measure should demolition contractors be accountable to insure demolition fees are adequate to cover costs?
Demolition contractors should post bond to insure the demolition fee is adequate.

4. Should demolitions be stopped until the Conservation District Ordinances passes?
I would support a moratorium on the demolitions of residential properties up-to-date on property taxes, deemed historically significant, and usage consistent with public policy, regardless of passage of any ordinance.

5. How you pay for street and infrastructure improvements?
In the book The High Cost of Free Parking, Donald Shoup identified off-street parking as the biggest, yet commonly overlooked, impact of development. I support using market-driven parking fees to address the City’s needed infrastructure improvements.

6. What steps should be in place to reimburse resident property owners for subsidizing development?
There is no question resident property owners subsidize development. It begets traffic, which begets parking. The off-street parking requirements should be stricken from the zoning code. Market forces should drive parking prices. The revenue would not only pay for more diligent inspections, but, also infrastructure improvements. If the City receives a quarter per hour from EVERY parking spot within City limits, there wouldn’t be enough street improvements to cycle through the income from parking. See The High Cost of Free Parking.

7. How would you mitigate pollution caused by demolitions?
As a green commuter, long before global warming was a pilot light, I have successfully kept environmentally sustainable issues, specifically transportation, in the public consciousness. Generally, Okla. Stat. tit. 60 § 49.11 regulates environmental impacts of real property. Also, Okla. Stat. tit. 27A provides for air, water, and soil quality monitoring. There are some Tulsa neighborhoods that require more monitoring than others. Specifically in District 9, I would support more diligent monitoring of demolitions and work sites.

8. How would you like the national historic preservation to perceive Tulsa's preservation efforts.
I would like Tulsa to be perceived as the ground-zero protest hotspot against teardowns. If elected, I would participate in a Critical Mass protest bike action every last Friday of the month against teardowns. Put the high-density, mixed-use developments where they belong, Downtown. Not in the middle of Tulsa’s most historic neighborhoods.

9. What steps should be undertaken to offset the lobbying power of the Home Builders' Association in Congress?
To offset the significant influence of the Home Builders’ Association in policy-making decisions that affect land development and our neighborhoods, I call on individual resident homeowners to join America’s MOST powerful lobby, the National Rifle Association. Make MY day.

Tulsa Fire Fighters Q-naire

1) Do you seek the endorsement of the Tulsa Fire Fighters?
I am not actively seeking the endorsement of any group, except the voters of Council District 9 on 1 April. If Tulsa Fire Fighters chose to endorse my candidacy, I would not look at the gift horse in the mouth.

2) Would you support the Fire Fighters in an effort to absorb the current emergency medical ambulance services?
In the past, I have wholeheartly and publically supported TFD operate medical ambulance services. I encourage TFD continue its efforts seeking to operate the medical ambulance services.

3) Would you support the Fire Fighters efforts to maintain the state laws that provide for and protect their pensions and their health and safety?
Yes.

4) Fire Fighters are afforded collective bargaining rights by state statutes. Would you support the Fire Fighters' efforts to maintain these laws?
Yes.

5) Fire Fighters collective bargaining laws include the right to settle contractual disputes with a neutral third party arbitrator. Would you agree to abide by the reasonable awards from neutral third party arbitrators?
Yes.

6) Would you oppose efforts to negatively change Fire Fighters benefits?
Yes.

7) The Fire Fighters collective bargaining agreement provides that we have a Market City Survey to determine our wages. Would you like to see the Tulsa Fire Department at 100% of the average market wage? Would you support an effort to maintain that average wage for Tulsa Fire Fighters?
Yes.
